Introduction to Weaving Course at NID, 2013

Basic Weaves Exploration

Woven textures & patterns were created by taking inspiration, using basic weave technique for the module 'Fabric Construction - Basic weaving' at college. Inspiration should be such that it inspires you soulfully. I took luscious Indian sweets, also known as Mithaiyaa in Hindi, as inspiration. Indian sweets are dramatic ornamental, rich in texture & flavors, aromatic, and trigger the sense of smell, taste, and sight.

INDIRECT REPRESENTATION OF THE INDIAN SWEETS

Exploration using various basic weaves & materials, inspired by the pattern, color & textures of Indian sweets.

Double Cloth, Candy-checks, Cotton in warp & weft

Sample created using thread drawn from unlooping viscose-rope in weft and rhythmic cotton stripes in the warp

Design in the sample made by continuous supplementary-weft, textured yarn in weft and cotton in warp

Exploration sample created by tieing warp-strand evenly to form a pattern, cotton in both warp & weft

Exploration sample created by engineered wefting leaving the warp yarn at intervals, cotton yarn in both warp & weft

Rhythmic stripes, created with jute and cotton in weft and cotton in warp

Curls created by exploring basic twill-weave, cotton in warp and acrylic in the weft

Exploration sample created by using thread made from waste plastic-wrappers & cotton in weft and cotton in warp

Exploration sample created by using plastics-straw (unconventional material) in weft and cotton in warp

Surface exploration by using various combinations of the basic weaves
